Therapies Used
Acupuncture
Rich is gentle and precise with his needle work. He uses a root and branch approach. He targets the injured local tissues, when appropriate, for fast relief. Postural discrepancies help identify muscle imbalances.
Different needle techniques are used for muscles that are contracted into shortened positions versus those that are lengthened and weakened. Acupuncture channels, nerve distributions and myofascial chains are treated in a deliberate way. Auricular acupuncture is frequently used to complement treatments. Rich has training in neurological acupuncture and may use electric stimulation when appropriate. Each person is treated as an individual. Those with more sensitive nervous systems are treated with fewer needles and more finesse. It doesn’t have to be painful to work!
Therapeutic Massage
Rich has extensive training in myofascial massage, joint mobilization and gua sha. Massage is worked into every treatment, unless patient requests differently.
Rehab Exercises
Rich frequently prescribes exercises to patients in order to rehab specific injuries as well as correct postural imbalances. This component can make all the difference in sustaining gains made between treatments.
Herbs
Rich operates an extensive herbal pharmacy and makes a wide variety of herbal products available for his patients. In 2009, Rich co-founded The Remedy Community Herb Garden in City Heights. The work of bridging traditional and contemporary healing knowledge has continued in diverse community settings, keeping that hands in the earth connection—the most recent fruit of this line of service comes from seeding a food forest project in collaboration with Solidarity Farm on Pauma tribal lands.
